News should be readable by everyone. We work towards conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
What we do
- A skip link and consistent landmarks so keyboard and screen-reader users can move straight to the story.
- Visible focus indicators on every interactive element.
- Alternative text on images that carry meaning.
- Text contrast that meets AA in both light and dark modes.
- Layouts that reflow on small screens and support browser zoom without loss of content.
Known limitations
Some embedded third-party content, such as social media posts and video players, is outside our direct control and may not meet the same standard. Older archive material may lack full alternative text; we improve it as we find it.

If something on NewsRena is hard or impossible to use, tell us through our contact page, marking your message Accessibility, with the page link and what happened. We treat accessibility reports as newsroom faults, not feature requests.
