What began as an attempt to change Iran’s military and strategic position has hardened into a prolonged contest over energy access and control of the Strait of Hormuz.

Neither side appears able to secure a decisive outcome. Iran retains the capacity to disrupt shipping, while US sanctions and military pressure impose heavy costs without producing a settlement. The result is elevated fuel prices, constrained trade and persistent inflation risk.

A durable exit will require more than tactical strikes or additional sanctions. It needs a framework for maritime access, verifiable security commitments and a diplomatic process capable of surviving domestic pressure on both sides.
