“Coyote vs. Acme” opened with an estimated $15.5 million after an unusual journey from studio cancellation to theatrical release.

Warner Bros. had shelved the completed film in 2023 before Ketchup Entertainment acquired it. Strong reviews and audience response helped turn the release into a closely watched test of whether abandoned projects can find commercial value elsewhere.

The result will strengthen debate about the economics of tax write-offs, creative ownership and the long-term value of completed films in an industry increasingly shaped by franchise strategy and streaming.
