Nigeria’s economy expanded by 4.43% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, improving on the 3.89% growth recorded in the preceding quarter. Official data cited by Reuters showed that both oil and non-oil activity contributed to the stronger performance. Average oil production rose to about 1.72 million barrels per day from roughly 1.55 million barrels per day in the first quarter, providing a lift to the petroleum sector. The figures reinforce signs of economic resilience, although growth remains below the government’s longer-term ambition of 7% annual expansion. For households and businesses, the central question is whether stronger headline growth will translate into more jobs, improved purchasing power and lower operating costs. NewsRena will continue tracking inflation, investment, productivity and sector-level performance to assess the quality—not only the pace—of Nigeria’s recovery.
