Ghana will require certain artisanal gold purchased by self-financing aggregators to be refined domestically before export from September 1. The measure is part of a broader effort to capture more value from the country’s gold industry and strengthen domestic refining. The policy could increase local processing activity, but implementation will depend on refinery capacity, transparent purchasing rules and effective enforcement against informal exports. Ghana is one of Africa’s largest gold producers, making the shift significant for both state revenue and the local precious-metals industry.
