Global oil prices rose more than 2% after a US strike on Iranian launchers near the Strait of Hormuz drew retaliation and renewed concern about the security of energy shipments.

Traffic through the strategic waterway remains sharply constrained, while attacks and threats have increased the cost and risk of moving crude. Analysts expect volatility to persist while diplomacy remains stalled.

The effect extends beyond traders: sustained increases in oil can raise transport, manufacturing and food costs, complicating inflation policy for governments and central banks.
