AI Data-Centre Demand Pushes Soitec Toward Long-Term Wafer Contracts
The French chip-materials company is securing deposits and fixed-price commitments as demand accelerates for silicon-photonics components used in AI infrastructure.
French semiconductor-materials producer Soitec is moving customers onto multi-year agreements as demand rises for wafers used in artificial-intelligence data-centre networks, Reuters reported.
The contracts combine fixed pricing, committed purchase volumes and deposits. Soitec says the structure is designed to give the company clearer demand visibility while discouraging customers from reserving more capacity than they genuinely need.
Photonics-SOI revenue is expected to more than double this financial year from slightly above $100 million. The expansion illustrates how AI investment is creating opportunities not only for chip designers, but also for specialist suppliers across the data-centre infrastructure chain.
