Kostyuk and Svitolina Deliver Commanding Starts at the US Open
The Ukrainian players advanced in straight sets, combining aggressive play with disciplined defence in their opening matches.
Marta Kostyuk and Elina Svitolina began their US Open campaigns with convincing straight-set victories in New York.
Kostyuk defeated Australian qualifier Storm Hunter 6-4, 6-1, while ninth seed Svitolina controlled her match against Argentina’s Solana Sierra 6-1, 6-2. Both players imposed an aggressive tempo without sacrificing defensive stability.
The performances reinforce Ukraine’s strong presence in the women’s draw and establish both players as serious threats as the tournament moves into its second round.
