NHS Leaders Warn ADHD and Autism Care Is Becoming Unsustainable
NHS leaders are warning that ADHD and autism services face severe operational and financial pressure as demand for assessment continues to rise.
Managers told the BBC that costs are escalating while unregulated private providers increasingly respond to demand that public services cannot meet quickly. The result is a fragmented pathway in which waiting times, assessment standards and follow-up care may vary widely.
The challenge is not only diagnostic capacity. Sustainable reform also requires consistent clinical standards, workforce investment and continuing support after an assessment has been completed.
