Benue pledges land and logistics for new Army 5 Division headquarters
Governor Alia told an Army implementation committee the state would build and furnish the divisional headquarters approved for Makurdi.
The Benue State Government has promised to provide land, construction and logistics support for the Nigerian Army formations newly approved for the state, including the headquarters of the 5 Division to be sited in Makurdi.
Governor Hyacinth Alia made the pledge while receiving a delegation from the Army Headquarters Implementation Committee at the Old Banquet Hall of Government House. He said the state would allocate suitable land for each of the approved formations and units, fund the construction and furnishing of the divisional headquarters, and supply the logistics needed for the units to begin operations.
Alia described the creation of the formations as a step towards strengthening the state's security architecture and rebuilding public confidence after years of attacks on rural communities. He thanked President Bola Tinubu for approving the formations and for siting the division in Benue, and commended the Chief of Army Staff for the decision. The practical test will be how quickly the units are stood up, and whether a permanent divisional presence changes response times in the local government areas where attacks have been most frequent.
