Akwa Ibom renews checks on unapproved schools
Officials distinguish earlier closures from the new enforcement round for the 2026/27 session.
Akwa Ibom education commissioner Ubong Umoh says the state has renewed enforcement against schools operating without approval or in unsuitable premises. Channels Television reported his briefing in Uyo on 28 September.
The commissioner cited more than 326 closures under the wider exercise that began in 2025, and more than 15 closures in the first two days of the new 2026/27 round. The larger figure should not be presented as the number of schools closed in one day.
Umoh said inspectors found unsuitable classrooms and other breaches of approval conditions. He urged parents to check a school’s approval status before enrolment. The report did not supply a complete school-by-school closure list.
