The Rivers State House of Assembly voted in favour of a proposed constitutional change to allow state policing on 28 September, Channels Television reported. Speaker Martin Amaewhule presided over the sitting.

The report said all 25 participating members supported the proposal, with no votes against and no abstentions. The vote followed the National Assembly’s transmission of the proposed amendment to state assemblies.

This was a state assembly endorsement within a wider constitutional process. It should not be read as confirmation that a Rivers State Police Service has already been established or begun operations. Implementation arrangements and subsequent legal steps remain separate from Monday’s vote.
